Lamisil Oral

Drug General Information

Lamisil is used for the treatment of onychomycosis of the toenail or fingernail due to dermatophytes.

Medicine taking

Follow the instructions on the label or those provided by your doctor. Lamisil is indicated for oral administration. It is to be taken once during the period of 6 weeks (fingernail fungus); or once a day for 12 weeks (toenail fungus).

Do not stop taking Lamisil once you started without talking to your doctor, as the result can be achieved only after several months of consecutive treatment, as your nail grows back in.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

Inform your doctor of the fact of previous allergic reaction to Lamisil; liver or kidney disease; problems with the immune system or blood problems. Some of these might appear to be direct contraindications while other conditions can mean you require additional monitoring of you condition or dosage adjustment.

Lamisil has been classified by the Food and Drug Administration as type “B” (harmless to the fetus), i.e. safe to take during pregnancy. However, make sure you consult your doctor in case you are pregnant or might conceive during the period of treatment. Lamisil passes into mother’s milk. If you are breast-feeding, make sure you consult your doctor before using this drug.

Possible Side Effects

Consult your physician immediately in case of experiencing nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual fatigue, loss of appetite, jaundice, itching, or dark urine, as these might be the early symptoms of developing liver damage.

Certain mild side effects may occur. You can continue taking Lamisil in case of experiencing such symptoms as nausea, upset stomach, heartburn, diarrhea, headache, taste disturbances.

In case of experiencing any of the serious side effects listed below stop taking Lamisil and immediately consult you physician: an allergic reaction (anhelation, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; hives), a rash; changes in vision or blood problems.

Very infrequently the use of this drug might result in severe liver damage and death.

Storage

This drug is to be stored in a hermetic container at room temperature away from direct light, heat or moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use the drug past its expiry date.

Overdose

The main symptoms of Lamisil overdose are the following: nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, rash, frequent urination and headache. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.

If you are currently taking other drugs and are not sure about their interaction with this one, consult your doctor to learn about it as certain medicines might make Lamisil less efficient or cause serious side effects.
