Drug General Information

Ultram is a drug use for moderate pain relief. It works by obtunding the response of your brain to pain. Sometimes this drug might be used for other purposes, as prescribed by your doctor.

Medicine taking

Ultram is a tablet indicated for oral administration. It is to be taken with food or without every 4- hours as necessary. Do not exceed the dose or take less than prescribed by your doctor. This drug could become addictive – you shouldn’t take it for a longer period than prescribed by your physician.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

This drug might cause drowsiness or dizziness; it’s not recommended to get engaged into any hazardous activities during the period of treatment until you know how your body is likely to react to the use of this drug. Ultram also enhances the influence of alcohol. As the result of interaction of alcohol and Ultram you might experience a dangerous decrease in breathing or liver problems. Ultram causes drowsiness in interaction with sedatives, sleeping pills, tranquilizers and antihistamines; simultaneous use is allowed only under your doctor’s supervision.

Inform your doctor of the fact of kidney disease, liver disease or a history of alcohol or drug dependence. Some of them might be direct contraindications while others might mean you need additional monitoring or dose adjustment.

Ultram has been classified by the Food and Drug Administration as type “C” i.e. it is not known whether it does any harm to the fetus. It is not known whether Ultram passes into mother’s milk. If you are breast-feeding, make sure you consult your doctor before using this drug

Possible Side Effects

Certain infrequent side effects might occur (migraine, speech disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatitis, liver failure).

Contact your doctor in case of experiencing dizziness, severe headache, drowsiness, blurred vision, upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, fast heartbeat, redness, swelling and itching

Storage

This drug is to be stored in a hermetic container away from direct light, heat or moisture at 77° F. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use the drug past its expiry date.

Overdose

The main symptoms of Ultram overdose are the following: difficulty breathing, shallow, weak breathing and seizures. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.

If you are currently taking other drugs and are not sure about their interaction with this one, consult your doctor to learn about it as certain medicines might make Ultram less efficient or cause serious side effects.
