Drug General Information

Levitra is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor indicated for treatment of such problems as erectile Dysfunction (ED) and impotence. It works by stimulating the blood flow into the penis. It is not intended for women or children.

This drug does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases, so make sure you use a condom or any other contraceptives.

You mustn’t take this drug if you are also taking nitroglycerin or other nitrates; alpha-blocker medicine (doxazosin, prazosin, terazosin) as certain very serious side effects are likely to occur. If you are not sure what drugs belong to these groups or you are currently taking them consult your doctor before taking Levitra to learn about any risks involved.

If you are currently taking other medicine for impotence, antifungal medicines, rifamycins, cimetidine,  erythromycin, medicine for high blood pressure or abnormal heartbeats (quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone or sotalol), HIV protease inhibitors, phenothiazines, tricyclic antidepressants, quinolone antibiotics, inform your doctor about that as in this case additional monitoring of your condition might be required.

Medicine taking

This medicine is intended for oral administration and is to be taken 1 hour before sexual activity or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take this medicine more often than once a day. Levitra may be taken on an empty stomach or with some food; however if taken from high-fat meal less amount of medicine is likely to get absorbed into your blood.

Precautions

Do not start taking any other drugs before consulting your doctor. Before taking this drug inform your doctor of any medical conditions such as penis problems, history of painful or prolonged erection, sickle cell anemia, blood system cancers, eye diseases, kidney or liver disease, bleeding disorders, active stomach ulcers, heart problems, stroke, very high or low blood pressure, allergies. Some of these might be the direct contraindications while other conditions might men you require a dosage adjustment or additional monitoring of your condition.

It is not recommended to take this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction to it. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor without first checking with him.

This drug might cause dizziness or vision changes; it’s not recommended to get engaged into any hazardous activities or activities that require fast reaction unless you are sure about the way your body reacts to Levitra. It is recommended to stand up and sit down carefully during the period of treatment to avoid the above mentioned effects. The use of alcohol might lessen your ability to react quickly and cause undesirable side effects. Avoid excessive use of alcoholic beverages during the period of treatment.

The medicine should be used with caution by the elderly as they are more likely to have stronger side effects.

Possible Side Effects

Side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include headache, flushing, stomach upset or nausea, heartburn, stuffy or runny nose, diarrhea, dizziness, or light-headedness.

In case of experiencing any of the serious side effects listed below stop taking Levitra and immediately consult you physician: severe dizziness, fainting, chest pain, or nausea.

An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing.

Contact your doctor immediately in case of experiencing an erection that lasts for more than 4 hours as this might cause damage to your penis if not treated urgently.

Storage

The medicine is to be stores at room temperature in a hermetic container away from direct light, heat or moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include back pain, muscle pain, and abnormal vision. If overdose is suspected, contact your doctor immediately.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. It is indicated for men only and should be taken under your doctor’s supervision. In case your symptoms become worse contact your doctor to receive further instructions.
