Prilosec

Drug General Information

This drug is used to treat stomach and esophagus problems related to the excessive acid production. Combined with certain antibiotics (amoxicillin, clarithromycin) Prilosec might be used for ulcer treatment.

Medicine taking

Prilosec comes in the form of a delayed-release tablet for oral administration. It is to be taken once a day before meals without chewing or crushing during two weeks, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. Do not take it for a longer period than prescribed by your doctor.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver problems, other stomach problems, any allergies, pregnancy or breast-feeding.

It is nor known whether Prilosec passes into mother’s milk. If you are breast-feeding talk to your doctor to learn about risks and dangers involved.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects you might experience when taking this drug include diarrhea, constipation, stomachache, nausea, gas, loss of appetite, headache or dizziness. If these symptoms continue or appear to be bothersome, contact your doctor.

Contact your doctor immediately in case of developing back or joint pain, nervousness, insomnia, cough, chest pain, unusual thirst, vision changes, loss of hair, ringing in the ears, fatigue.

An infrequent allergic reaction might occur. The most common symptoms are rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you become aware of any other unusual of bothersome effects, consult your doctor or nurse.

Storage

This drug is to be stored at room temperature away from direct light, heat or moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use the drug past its expiry date.

Overdose

The main symptoms of Prilosec overdose might include confusion, unusual sweating, blurred vision, irregular heartbeat, seizures. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
