Lasix

Drug General Information

This medicine belongs to the group of loop diuretics and is widely used to treat swelling cause by excessive water in the body, high blood pressure and congestive heart failure.

Warning: due to the specificity of his drug it might cause serious water loss in your body. Contact your doctor in case of experiencing thirst, dry mouth, confusion and muscle weakness.

Inform your doctor about the fact of taking anticoagulants, parenteral aminoglycosides, chloral hydrate, cisplatin, digitoxin, digoxin, ginseng, or indomethacin, as additional monitoring of your condition or dosage might be required.

Medicine taking

Follow the directions on the label and those provided by your doctor. Lasix is to be taken on an empty stomach or with some food. In case of taking this drug once a day, it is recommended to take it in the morning, as when you first take it it might increase frequency of urination.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

Inform your doctor of the fact of previous allergic reaction to Lasix; liver or kidney disease; problems with the immune system or blood problems. Some of these might appear to be direct contraindications while other conditions can mean you require additional monitoring of you condition or dosage adjustment.

This medicine might cause dizziness, light-headedness and fainting. Do not get engaged in hazardous activities or activities that require fast reaction until you are sure about the reaction of your body to this medicine. You should also limit the use of alcohol during the period of treatment. Lasix might increase skin sensitivity; if you are exposed to sun for a long period of time, make sure you wear protective clothes and use effective sunscreen.

For women: If you are breast-feeding or might conceive during the period of treatment, consult your doctor to learn about the benefits and risks of taking this medicine. Lasix passes into mother’s milk. If you are breast-feeding, make sure you consult your doctor before using this drug.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects you might experience when taking this drug include dizziness, lightheadedness when sitting up or standing, nausea. If these symptoms continue or appear to be bothersome, contact your doctor.

Contact your doctor immediately in case of experiencing diarrhea, muscle pain, vomiting, loss of appetite, dry mouth, unusual thirst, weakness, rapid or irregular heartbeat.

Storage

This drug is to be stored in a hermetic container away from direct light, heat or moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use the drug past its expiry date.

Overdose

The main symptoms of Lasix overdose include dry mouth, dizziness, excessive urination, muscle cramps, weakness, and irregular heartbeat. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
