Isoptin

Drug General Information

This drug belongs to the group of calcium channel blockers and is used to treat angina (chest pain), high blood pressure or o prevent or treat fast heart rate.

It is not recommended to take Isoptin if you have a history of low blood pressure, heart block, severe heart failure, or certain abnormal heart rhythms. Inform your doctor about the fact of taking theophylline, carbamazepine, digoxin, digitoxin, intravenous calcium, flecainide, quinidine, medicine for heart conditions or high blood pressure, as some additional dose monitoring might be required. Inform your doctor of any medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding before taking this medicine.

Medicine taking

Follow the directions on the label or those provided by your doctor. Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

This drug might cause dizziness. Do not get engaged in any hazardous activities or activities that require fast response unless you are sure about the reaction f your body to this medicine. Do not exceed the dose or stop taking this medicine or begin taking another one without talking to your doctor.

For women: if you are pregnant or are planning to conceive during the period of treatment, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. This medicine passes into breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects

Consult your doctor immediately if you experience shortness of breath, swelling of feet or hands, irregular pulse or severe dizziness. Certain mild side effects that are likely to go away as you continue taking this drug include dizziness, light-headedness, headache, fatigue, nausea and constipation. If they continue or appear to be bothersome, check with your doctor.

Storage

This drug is to be stored at room temperature, away from heat, direct light and moisture.

Overdose

The symptoms of overdose are the following:  rapid, slow or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, fainting and loss of consciousness. In case of suspecting an overdose consult your doctor immediately.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.

If you are currently taking other drugs and are not sure about their interaction with Isoptin consult your doctor to learn more about it as certain drugs might cause unwanted side effects or make this medicine inefficient.
