Drug General Information

This drug is used to prevent and treat asthma. It is also used to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever).

In case of taking rifamycin antibiotics, certain drugs for liver metabolism stimulation or other asthma drugs additional monitoring of your condition might be required. Make sure you inform your doctor about any particular medical conditions (liver problems, blood disorder, allergies, pregnancy, breast-feeding) before using this drug.

Medicine taking

Follow the directions on the label or those provided by your doctor. Chew thoroughly before swallowing. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with some food.

Precautions

Make sure your talk to your doctor before you stop taking it or any other asthma medicine. It’s highly recommended to keep all the appointments as you are taking this medicine so that your progress and medical condition would be monitored.

Phenylketonurics: this medicine may contain certain amount of aspartame (phenylalanine); if due to your particular medical condition you must restrict the intake of aspartame, consult your doctor before using this medicine.

In case you also have a bronchodilator inhaler make sure you always carry it with you as the medicine does not help you stop an asthma attack once it is started. In case you have any questions concerning drug therapy consult your physician.

For women: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. Use of this medicine has resulted in fetus harm and death; it is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. If you are breast-feeding while you are using this medicine, consult your doctor to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible Side Effects

Side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include unusual weakness, stomach upset, diarrhea, dizziness, cough, headache, nausea, vomiting, trouble sleeping,  mouth pain. If they continue or are bothersome, contact your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience hallucinations, fever, persistent sore throat, earache, flu symptoms, muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, yellowing eyes/skin, bleeding, swelling or seizures.

An allergic reaction to this drug (itching, rash, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing) is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs.

Overdose

The main symptoms of Singulair overdose are the following: thirst, drowsiness, dilated pupils, increased muscle movements, severe stomach pain dizziness, unusual weakness. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Storage

The drug is to be stored away from direct light or open fire at room temperature (77 F) in a hermetic container. Brief storage at the temperature between 59 and 86 F is allowed.

Additional Information

Make sure you always have an ID card with information about treatment with this medicine.

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
