Drug General Information

This drug is widely used to treat certain mental disorders. Consult your doctor in case you are currently taking tramadol, haloperidol, or HIV protease inhibitors as some additional monitoring of your medical condition might be required. Before taking this drug inform your pharmacist of any particular medical conditions (allergies, diabetes, seizures, heart disease, breast cancer, liver conditions, difficulty, pregnancy, or breast-feeding).

Medicine taking

Follow the directions provided by your doctor or written on the label. This drug might be taken alone or with food if your stomach gets upset.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

Make sure your talk to your doctor before you stop taking Zyprexa. It might take about 4 weeks for the drug to do its job. It’s highly recommended to keep all the appointments as you are taking this medicine so that your progress and medical condition and side effects would be monitored.

Do not start treatment with this drug in case of having allergic reaction to any of its components. Do not exceed the dosage prescribed by your doctor or stop taking the drug without previously consult your doctor.

Talk with your doctor about the danger of developing diabetes or blood sugar levels increase when taking this medicine.

This drug might cause drowsiness; it’s not recommended to get engaged into any hazardous activities during the period of treatment. Such conditions as alcohol use or high temperature might lessen your ability to react quickly and increase the risk of heatstroke. It is recommended to stand up and sit down carefully in the mornings during the treatment.

For women: If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. It is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. If you are breast-feeding while you are using this medicine, consult your doctor to discuss the risks to your baby.

Diabetics: this drug may affect your blood sugar. Talk to your doctor in order to adjust the daily dosage of the drug.

Possible Side Effects

Side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, weight gain. If they continue or are bothersome, contact your doctor. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience inability to move eyes, muscle spasms, difficulty swallowing, mask-like face, tremors of hands, puffing of cheeks, twitching, unusual weakness; painful erection; symptoms of high blood sugar (increased thirst, increased urination, vision changes.

An allergic reaction to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness,

Overdose

The main symptoms of Zyprexa overdose are the following: fast or irregular heartbeat, agitation, severe drowsiness, slurred speech, muscle stiffness. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
