Pamelor

Drug General Information

This medicine belongs to the group of tricyclic antidepressant and is used to treat depression as well as chronic pain and other conditions as prescribed by your doctor.

Consult your doctor in case you are currently taking carbamazepine, cimetidine, dicumarol, clonidine, fluoxetine, fluconazole, fluvoxamine, guanadrel, guanethidine, guanfacine, a macrolide antibiotic, mibefradil, paroxetine, sertraline, terbinafine, tramadol, a sympathomimetic or a phenothiazine, or if you hve a history of seizures or porphyria, as some additional monitoring of your medical condition might be required.

It is not recommended to take Pamelor if you are also taking astemizole, cisapride, dofetilide, terfenadine, or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor or if you have a history of glaucoma or increased pressure in the eye, enlarged prostate, problems urinating or heart conditions

Medicine taking

Follow the directions on the label and those provided by your doctor. Continue taking this medicine even in case of considerable improvement of your condition.

The missed dose is to be taken immediately as soon as you remember, the remaining doses are to be taken at regular intervals. However, if according to the schedule the next dose is to be taken within a short period of time, it’s recommended to skip the missed dose and take the rest of the days’ doses as specified.

Precautions

It might take several weeks for the drug to do its job. It’s highly recommended to observe all doctor and laboratory appointments during this period.

Do not start treatment with this drug in case of having allergic reaction to any of its components. Do not exceed the dosage prescribed by your doctor or stop taking the drug without previously consult your doctor.

Make sure your talk to your doctor before you stop taking Pamelor. It’s highly recommended to keep all the appointments as you are taking this medicine so that your progress and medical condition and side effects would be monitored. Talk with your doctor about the danger of developing diabetes or blood sugar levels increase when taking this medicine.

This drug might cause drowsiness; it’s not recommended to get engaged into any hazardous activities during the period of treatment. The use of alcohol and hot weather might lessen your ability to react quickly and cause

Pamelor might also cause extreme skin sensitivity. Try to avoid direct exposure to sun, hot weather or tanning booths if you are not sure about how your body reacts to this drug. Protect your skin when outside for a long period of time.

For women: This drug harms the fetus. If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. This drug passes into breast milk. If you are breast-feeding while you are using this medicine, consult your doctor to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible Side Effects

Consult your physician immediately in case of experiencing constipation, vision changes, eye pain, irregular heartbeat, hair loss, fainting, nervousness or restlessness, mood swings, loss of balance, difficulty speaking and swallowing, unusual bleeding or bruising, sore throat or fever, skin rash and itching, swelling of hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue, irritability, seizures, jaundice, hallucinations, chest pain

Other side effects might include dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, nausea, weakness, diarrhea, excess sweating, heartburn, unpleasant taste, weight gain, or an increased appetite especially for sweets. If these symptoms continue or appear to be bothersome consult your physician or nurse.

Storage

This drug is to be stored in a hermetic container away from direct light, heat or moisture. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. Do not use the drug past its expiry date.

Overdose

The main symptoms of Pamelor overdose are flushing, irregular heartbeat, dry mouth, drowsiness, confusion, agitation, enlarged pupils, seizures, loss of consciousness. In case of the drug overdose immediately contact the doctor.

Additional Information

Do not share this drug with those to whom it was not prescribed. Use this drug only to treat specific medical conditions as prescribed by your doctor. If using this medicine for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
